It’s almost that time of year… mark April 6th on your
calendars!
For 4th year/MJ2s… this year will end with one of our greatest fears… prom.
Every year we all get together, reminisce, drink, dance, and enjoy our last night all-together before we fly off into the world.
To make this year the best it can be, we’re putting together a grad video… But it won’t be complete without pictures and videos by you!
Send us your embarrassing, beautiful, funny, and important pictures from your years at Carleton. Email them to: carletonjournalism@gmail.com or submit them to the J-Prom committee personally.
We’ll also start getting video confessions from y’all over the next few weeks.
Cheers,
Allie

Action for Haiti

A tent village after a powerful earthquake devestated Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. Help is needed immidiately to save the millions affected by the disaster.
We have all been affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Our hearts cannot help but hurt when we see the devastating images on our screen and the cries of help from the people. Many students want to know how they can help. I’m aware of two organizations fundraising, but I can imagine there are many more. If you know of any, let me know and I’ll add it to the list.
As journalism students especially, we are paying close attention to the coverage and following it closely. But it’s also important we look at it more than a story, more than another disaster. We can’t just reach into our minds to pull out the right words, we must reach into our wallets and find something there to give.
Carleton University’s Student Association is helping support Haitian relief efforts by supporting the Haiti Emergency Relief fund, Partners and Health, and the member organizations of the Humanitarian Coalition (Save the Children Canada, Care Canada, Oxfam Canada and Oxfam-Québec).
Watch for volunteers in the Atrium, a garage sale, a talent show, and more. You can also make donations in the CUSA Office.
UNICEF Carleton will be starting their donation campaign next week. The club wanted to let everyone know all UNICEF workers in Haiti are safe and will participate in the relief effort. Donate here.
Thank you for your support. I’ll have more soon.

Hey J-Schoolers
Welcome back to Carleton. 2010 will be so much fun! And lots of work…
First off I’d like to apologize for dropping the ball on the website. As many of us did, I got caught up in exams and final assignments in December then wanted nothing to do with school during the break.
But a week in… it’s about time to start things up again. And we’re going to have a busy month!
This Thursday is the first CUSA Council meeting of the new year. It will be held in 2203 Dunton Tower at 6pm. As soon as an agenda becomes available I will post it in the CUSA section. Also, elections for CUSA’s 2010-2011 Council will begin in February. If you’re thinking of running send me an email for more info.
Journalists for Human Rights will be launching their radio program very soon. Check here for more details when they become available.
For those of you applying for grad school… deadlines are coming up! If you’re thinking of working, the job boards outside Elizabeth’s office will be filling up with opportunities soon – don’t forget to take a peak!
And finally if you’re graduating this year the Journalism Society is starting to plan J-Prom. Just in case your high school prom went terribly… you now have a chance to start anew!
Keep checking here for all your j-school info. No more ball dropping on my end.
Cheers,
Allie

Hey there party people,
We will be meeting in St. Pat’s (room 472) this Friday from 1 – 2:30 p.m.
The name of the game will be to set out a plan for next semester’s EPIC PARTY. We’re looking to involve not just executive members in this – if you have any interest in planning events or preparing to take on a greater role in Canadian Journalists for Human Rights (hint, hint) you can come out.
There will be plenty of fun to go around. I say ‘fun’ because we’re a no-stress club. Come with your strengths and schedule in mind and we’ll work with you!
Note: This 1.5-hour time slot is the only time you’ll need to commit to doing anything this semester. We’ll kick-start everything EPIC PARTY-related in January. So don’t worry about your exams or essays.
See you on Friday!

Hey Journos!
It is a very busy month for us all… but the end is near. In three weeks we will all wake up without class. So write those articles, interview those sources, read that news, and soon enough it will be…. time for exams? Hmm…
Journalists have been very busy on campus. The Journalism Society’s Sports Panel was a huge success. Carleton students showed the panelists why we are one of the strongest schools for journalism in the country. They have all agreed to be available should you have any questions. Just ask the Journalism Society for their contact details.
Carleton’s Journalists for Human Rights chapter is kicking off their radio show on CKCU this month. See the post for more details. I look forward to hearing all their brilliant stories… and of course its never too late to get involved.
There are lots of other exciting non-journalism related activities students are gearing up for including Carleton’s Got Talent and Relay for Life.
As for me, I’m looking forward to the upcoming CUSA Council meeting this Thursday, 6pm in the Senate Board Room at Robertson Hall. Details of the agenda are available here
Good luck wrapping up the term! If you have any questions, comments, thoughts, or requests please don’t hesitate to ask. Also please send me your stories, slideshows, radio pieces, and blogs for the Your Stuff section!
Cheers
Allie

Hi CJHR,
Get ready to hear us on the radio! We have a new home on CKCU – and we want you to be a part of this fabulous new development.
Actually, ‘new’ isn’t really a good word in this case. This semester, Victoria has been plugging away behind the scenes with a few other dedicated folks. Their hard work is about to pay off and the official launch of the show will be in two weeks.
You have NOT missed your chance to be involved, though, because there are two options for members right now:
1. Contact Victoria at victoria_ptashnick@hotmail.com to secure your space (in production or at the mic) in the next two radio shows. You don’t need to be trained. It will be magical.
or
2. Wait until January for the next round of radio training and reporting. Once next semester starts we’ll be hitting the airwaves biweekly.
We hope you’re as excited as we are!
Cheers,
- Carly
