Carleton JHR presents: NIGHTS FOR RIGHTS

Tuesday, January 28th 8pm-10pm at Roosters

Put down those essays, and textbooks, and recorders, Carleton!

It’s time for an event you won’t want to miss — just in time to take away your winter blues.

Carleton’s Journalists for Human Rights is excited to bring you the second annual NIGHT FOR RIGHTS – better known in some circles as our EPIC PARTY.

This year’s theme is “Express Yourself,” so we’re offering you:

- Delicious food from across the world
- More art than you can handle
- Carleton’s hottest spoken word, dance, and musical talents
- Our special guest for the night: John Akpata, Ottawa’s gift to spoken word

$5 will get you dinner and a show – but bring a little extra cash if you want to take home some art we’ll be displaying. You can buy tickets at the door or in advance (from any of your favourite exec members).

All proceeds from the event go towards assisting journalists and media outlets in Africa.

More information:

Journalists for Human Rights is Canada’s largest international media development organization. Since 2002 it has been working in Africa to train journalists to report on human rights abuses. The idea is that the more people are aware of their rights, the less human rights abuses there will be.
Rights media – material that creates a dialogue on human rights issues – is simply effective. Journalists for Human Rights reaches millions every day.
Carleton Journalists for Human Rights is one of the NGO’s university chapters. Here in Ottawa, students have the opportunity to support head office’s work in Africa while exploring human rights in their backyard. We have some exciting plans for the next eight months. Right now we are looking for support from energetic students in any program.
This year, you can help:
+ Jumpstart a new CKCU radio show
+ Publish other rights media (reporting, fiction, academic essays)
+ Organize events and awareness campaigns
+ Support community-service learning initiatives
